Don't Leave Me!!

Our cat Maggie becomes very stressed whenever we pull a suitcase or bag out. She understands this to mean that her mommy and daddy are leaving her all alone. Therefore, whenever one of us starts packing, she tries to sabotage the process by placing herself inside the suitcase to prevent us from packing more. Or, perhaps she's trying to sneak away with us in the suitcase. Here she is staging another sit-in when Ben was trying to pack for his trip to D.C.

A Proud Tradition

Dr. Williamson, MD, one of the medical school professors and a former Air Force Major swears in Ben and his classmate, Joel. This is the exact same oath taken by the Vice President of the United States.

It's official.
A close up of the lieutenant bars. This picture was taken per Bip's request. Great suggestion! Also notice the Air Force tie.
Lieutenant Goins and Angela, a proud officer's wife!

We are proud to announce that Ben is officially a 2d. Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He swore to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic yesterday at a ceremony held at the medical school where Dean Stowers and other faculty members stopped in to witness the festivities. Ben is excited and humbled to continue the tradition of military service from both of our families. Ben will go to officer training during the month of May and then serve three years as an Air Force doctor after his residency training is complete. This is a part of the Health Professions Scholarship Program that Ben was accepted into earlier this year. Ang was able to participate in the ceremony by pinning the bars on Ben's collar. All the pictures were taken by Ben's dear friend Anthony, who has already sworn in as a 2d. Lt. and will be with Ben during officer training in May in Montgomery, AL. Please pray for us and our future as a military family!

Lauren is Engaged!

Ben's twin sister Lauren is engaged! Here she is with her fiance Ken at an Auburn game. Yes, he is an Auburn fan, but if it had to be orange at least it's not Florida! They are currently planning for a May 2009 wedding.

Spring Break!

We enjoyed a relaxing Spring Break at the end of March. Ben's parents came to visit with us for a weekend, and we spent the rest of the time just hanging out and enjoying each other's company. One day we took a trip to Knoxville to enjoy some real food and shopping. Here is Ang in World Market trying to find martini glasses large enough to quench her thirst for dirty martinis!

Bip's 80th Birthday

In March we celebrated Ang's grandfather's 80th birthday. Ang's mom and Aunt Susan planned a wonderful celebration with an Academy Award theme, since the Oscar also turned 80 this year. Bip was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award. The first picture is Bip with his Oscar and Leading Lady, Grandmother (AKA Nancy). The next is Ang's step-dad Royce interviewing "nominees" on the red carpet. Here he's asking Grandmother how is feels to be named the "Sexiest Woman Alive"! Isn't she beautiful? There aren't many grandmothers cool enough to wear a red leather jacket, and one that my grandfather bought her! Of course, when I was little I used to call her a "Rock and Roll Grandmother"!
